Scroll Air Compressors

Best for use in smaller facilities or periodic use, scroll medical air compressors are a smaller, quitter compressor system, designed for use in medical applications, like medical air delivery, but can also be used for instruments and laboratory applications. They are an oil-less system with very low preventative maintenance costs. Until a pump goes bad on one of these systems, the only maintenance typically required is a filter change.

Reciprocating Air Compressors

Best for use in larger facilities requiring compressors that can deliver medical air and gases, reciprocating medical air compressors are durable, higher volume, compressors. They typically come in two different types; Oil-less and Oil flooded. Oil-less reciprocating air compressors are used for delivery of medical air and gases, while oil flooded systems are used for instrument applications. Both versions are easily maintained and repaired, with oil flooded systems requiring more maintenance than oil-less compressors.
Reciprocating compressors can range from 5hp for a smaller stand-alone system, all the way up to 500hp systems built as duplex, triplex, etc. systems, it all depends on how many pumps you have and how much power is required. For use in Instrument air applications, oil-flooded systems can be a cost-effective alternative to other compressor types.

Rotary Screw Compressors

Best for use with instruments, (not delivery of medical gases for human consumption) rotary screw compressors are larger compressor types typically used in industrial applications and can go from 10hp all the way to 500hp. This system constantly runs and is able to deliver variable volumes of compressed air to instruments. These systems are able to autonomously adjust the frequency and volume of delivery to specific instruments using variable frequency drives, or VFDs.

Medical Air Compressor Rental

If your medical air compressor is down and you need repairs, the first thing to address is whether or not you need a rental system in the meantime. We provide rental systems that allow you to get back up and running. Depending on the issue, medical air compressor repairs could take 1-14 days to fully repair, and lead times on replacement parts from manufacturers can be just as long.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text el_class=”compressor-rental emeregncy-hour”]NEED EMERGENCY SERVICES

For systems that provide medical air/gases for human consumption these maintenance schedules are required by NFPA guidelines.

Ensuring that you understand them and have someone regularly maintaining you medical air system can help you avoid unexpected shutdowns. For more information on preventative maintenance services we provide, please visit our medical maintenance page.

  • Belt Inspections – Scroll compressor belts wear out over time and it is suggested to replace them annually to ensure there are no unexpected tears during regular use. Belts should, however, be checked for this wear on a quarterly basis. Ensuring proper tension is the best way to avoid fraying and belt wear over time.
  • Analyzing Alarm Readings – Alarm readings will tell whether or not there are temperature issues with the pump, in these cases bearings, O-rings, and seals will be replaced.
  • Overload – Check the conditions of overload on both vacuum pumps and compressors by checking amp readings once a quarter. Proper function of overloads is also tested by manually tripping the overloads.
  • Poppet valves, plate valves, and ring valves should be replaced annually
  • Oil-flooded compressors need to have oil changed every 6 months at least, depending on use.

Best Practices for Safety and Maintenance

  • Check C02 monitor every day (Critical).
  • Check Dewpoint reading on dryers (Critical).
  • Check Air filter every week.
  • Check oil-levels on reciprocating systems every day.
  • Check pressure readings once a week.
  • Check to make sure dryer tanks are releasing excess moisture.

Vacuum Pump Maintenance:

  • Check air filters everyday.
  • Check oil level once a day.
  • Check oil color, it should not be to dark.
  • Check gauges on the exhaust filter daily, green is good, red is bad.
  • Change exhaust air filter every 6 months.
  • Check the conditions of overload on both vacuum and compressors.
